Self-Organized Criticality in the Brain# According to statistical physics, there exists a space between order and disorder where special proprties such as long range correlations, scale invariance and optimal information processing arise. I have been exploring the brain criticality hypothesis which posits that the brain self-organizes close to this critical phase to learn and adapt optimally.

Computational Biology

Overview# Spontaneous emergence of order is a fundamental property and a open question in biology. From the self-organization of molecules into cells, to the emergence of multicellularity and the organization of ecosystems, biological systems exhibit a remarkable capacity to generate complex and adaptive structures from simple interactions.
I have been extending the principles of information dynamics developed in my work on emergence in neural systems to understand how self-organization and causal emergence arise in biological systems.

Evolutionary Ecology

Overview# Evolution is a powerful force that has driven the diversification and propagation of life on Earth. One of the most fascinating aspects of evolution is how it can lead to the emergence of hierarchical organization in biological systems. This research topic explores the computational and theoretical aspects of how natural selection can give rise to hierarchical structures in ecosystems, from the level of genes and organisms to communities and ecosystems.

Computational Social Science

Overview# I have been fascinated how much the fundamental principles governing the emergence of collective behaviour in physical and biological systems can be applied to understand the dynamics of social and economic systems. Social and economic forces shape our collective behaviour and the emergence of social norms, cooperation, polarization and technological sophistication.
Using tools from Statistical Physics, Network Science and Agent-Based Modelling, I have been exploring how the interplay of network structure, heterogeneity and higher-order interactions can give rise to the emergent collective behaviour in social and economic ystems.

Coming Soon

Watch this space for updates on my latest research, publications, and projects!

CV

Experience# AI in Science Research Fellow 2025-10-01 - 2027-09-30 I-X Imperial College London London, UK Exploring the role of self-organization and emergence in task-generalization and learning in artificial and biological neural networks.
